Mura pattern classification (for ITRI)
In this psychophysics study, we will try to establish a standard for testing Mura pattern. The procedure we are proposing is to locally reduce the luminance surrounding the Mura pattern with Neutral Density filters and determine the luminance level that makes the Mura pattern at detection threshold. For this purpose, we will investigate two factors that may affect the detection of Mura pattern: luminance and size. We will measure the detection threshold for Mura patterns under various display luminance as well as the luminance and the sizes of the surrounding patch. The threshold under these testing conditions will be fit by a divisive inhibition model of spatial vision. We will observe how the model parameters change with the luminance and size. This information will help us to equalize the detectability of Mura patterns and hence establish the standard for Mura pattern
